The Global Commission on the Economy and Climate Change held a meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Saturday the 25th of January 2014. The meeting was led by former Mexican President Felipe Calderón, Chair of the Commission.
During a busy and lively session Commission members discussed the progress made by the New Climate Economy project as well as plans for activities leading up to publication of findings this September. Commission members stressed the importance of trying to drive change by engaging key stakeholders including finance ministers and business leaders. Members also highlighted the importance of focusing on finding opportunities to create growth and jobs while reducing poverty and increasing resilience to climate change.
The meeting also featured a the participation of a number of high-level guests: Peter Bakker (President, World Business Council for Sustainable Development); Pascal Canfin (Deputy Minister for Development, France); Robert Orr (Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Strategic Planning, United Nations); Per Pharo (Director of the Government of Norway's International Climate and Forest Initiative); Mary Robinson (President, Mary Robinson Foundation and chair of the High-Level Advisory Committee, Climate Justice Dialogue) and Dominic Waughray (Senior Director, Head of Environmental Initiatives, World Economic Forum).
