The Global Commission on the Economy and Climate is delighted to announce seven new members of its International Council: Chen Yuan, Daniel L Doctoroff, Angel Gurría, Horst Köhler, Michel M. Liès, Annise Parker and Jens Stoltenberg. They will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the project.
Chen Yuan is currently Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and previously served for 15 years as Chairman of the China Development Bank, one of the world’s largest development banks.
Daniel Doctoroff is President and CEO of Bloomberg LP, the global financial information and media corporation. He was formerly deputy mayor for economic development for the City of New York and author of its pathbreaking sustainable urban plan ‘PlaNYC’.
Angel Gurría is Secretary-General of the OECD. He is a former Foreign Minister and Finance Minister of Mexico.
Horst Köhler is the former President of Germany, and was previously Managing Director of the IMF and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Michel M. Liès is CEO of Swiss Re, one of the world’s largest insurance and reinsurance companies.
Annise Parker is Mayor of Houston, one of only two women to hold the post, having formerly had a career of over twenty years in the oil and gas industry.
Jens Stoltenberg was Prime Minister of Norway for eight years until October 2013. He is a former Minister of Finance and Minister of Trade and Energy.
Together, these seven new members join a Commission now twenty-two strong, with members drawn from eighteen countries. Chaired by Felipe Calderón, former President of Mexico, the Commission comprises leading figures in the fields of government, business and finance. Other members include Luísa Dias Diogo, former President of Mozambique; Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of The World Bank and former Finance Minister of Indonesia; Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme and former Prime Minister of New Zealand; and S. Gopalakrishnan, Executive Vice-Chairman of leading software company Infosys and President of the Confederation of Indian Industry. The Council’s role is to provide overall guidance for and expert input to the New Climate Economy project.
