The Global Commission (2013-2022)

The New Climate Economy was overseen by a Global Commission until 2022. The Commission comprised of former heads of government and finance ministers, and leaders in the fields of economics, business and finance. All members served in a personal capacity. Ricardo Lagos

Commissioner; Former President of Chile; Professor at Large, Watson Institute for International Studies, Brown University
Chile

Widely regarded as one of Latin America's most important political leaders, Ricardo Lagos served as president of Chile from 2000 to 2006. During his presidential term he prioritised the pursuit of free-trade agreements, improvements in health care and education legislation, and addressing the crimes of Augusto Pinochet's military regime.

Helen Clark

Commissioner; Former Administrator, UN Development Programme (UNDP); Former Prime Minister of New Zealand
New Zealand

Helen Clark became the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme on 17 April 2009, and was the first woman to lead the organization. She was also the Chair of the United Nations Development Group, a committee consisting of the heads of all UN funds, programmes and departments working on development issues.

Chen Yuan

Chen Yuan is the Former Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He was elected to this post in March 2013.

Suma Chakrabarti

Commissioner; Former President, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

Sir Suma Chakrabarti is the Former President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The Bank’s Board of Governors elected Sir Suma as President of the EBRD for a four year term starting July 3, 2012.

Christian Rynning-Tønnesen

Commissioner, President and CEO of Statkraft
Norway

Christian Rynning-Tønnesen has been the CEO of Statkraft since 2010 and has previously held various positions in the company’s top management from 1992-2005. Statkraft is a leading company in hydropower internationally and Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy.

Kristin Skogen Lund

Commissioner; CEO, Schibsted Group
Norway

Kristin Skogen Lund is the CEO of the Schibsted Group, former Director-General of the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise and a former Executive Vice President and Head of Nordic region, Digital Services Division and Broadcast at Telenor, the Norwegian telecoms company.

Maria van der Hoeven is the former Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA). As Executive Director of the IEA, Ms. Van der Hoeven steered the agency during a period of exceptional change in the global energy economy.
